Mumbai Raigad Landslide News – 36 killed and 30 still trapped
At least 65 villagers are reported to be buried alive, in a series of landslides and disasters following torrential rains in Maharashtra’s Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara districts. Top officials have given this information on Friday.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that according to preliminary reports, 30 to 35 people have died in the hill tragedy in a remote Raigad village and efforts are on to rescue those trapped under stones and mud.
The shocking incident took place at Chhote Talai village near Mahad town in the hilly area of Raigad district of Maharashtra, where it has been raining heavily for the past three days.
According to preliminary information, an estimated 50-60 meters of a hill broke and nearly three dozen houses slammed down, leaving most of the victims trapped under boulders, stones, and mud.
Raigad MP Sunil Tatkare said he along with other rescue teams were running towards the accident site. The death toll is expected to rise in view of the apprehension of intermittent rains and floods as well as debris, mud, and loose soil hampering operations.
