National | India successfully test-fired the Agni-Prime missile today, off the coast of Odisha. It can hit targets up to a range of 2000 km, & is very short & light in comparison with other missiles in this class. A lot of new technologies incorporated in the new missile: DRDO officials.
This missile has a range of 1000 to 1500 km. Agni Prime missile based on 2 stage and solid fuel is guided by navigation system based on Advance Ring Laser Gyroscope. Its guided system is equipped with an electromechanical actuator. Unlike the single-stage Agni 1, the double-stage Agni Prime can be fired from both road and mobile launchers.
Agni Prime is a low-weight missile due to the use of state-of-the-art technology. Its firepower is more than the earlier missiles. India had first test-fired the medium-range ballistic missile Agni 1 in 1989. If sources are to be believed, Agni 1 will now be replaced by Agni Prime, five missiles of the Agni series have been successfully developed and tested in India.
Today, a team of senior officers and scientists associated with the Defense Research and Development Organization were present on the occasion of its test. If sources are to be believed, India can test many more powerful missiles in the coming days.
