Lucknow: Sunil Sharma, MLA from Sahibabad constituency, took oath as a minister in the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Sharma’s appointment as minister has sparked celebrations among the people of Sahibabad and the Brahmin community. It is believed that the party has chosen a Brahmin face, considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
At the Raj Bhavan, Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) MLA Anil Kumar, BJP leader Dara Singh Chauhan, and Sunil Kumar Sharma.
Sharma is a two-time BJP MLA from the Sahibabad constituency and has been an MLA for three terms overall. He is also a member of the BJP executive committee. A lawyer by profession, Sharma holds the record for the highest victory margin in the 2022 assembly elections in the state, winning by a margin of 2.14 lakh votes. This feat earned him a place in the India Book of Records.
While speculation was rife that Sharma would be included in the cabinet after his historic win, he has now received the fruits of his hard work. Before Sharma, this record was held by Maharashtra NCP leader Ajit Pawar, who won the 2019 assembly elections with a margin of 1.65 lakh votes. In 2022, Sharma even surpassed his record from 2017.
Sharma is considered a prominent leader among the Brahmin community and is also known as a skilled orator.

Upon receiving the ministerial position, Sharma stated, “This is a matter of great pride and honor for me. I am grateful to Yogi Adityanath Ji and the party leadership for their trust in me. I will contribute to the development of the state and serve the people.”
