LUCKNOW, INDIA – March 6, 2024: A devastating fire caused by a suspected electrical short circuit ripped through a residence in Lucknow’s Kakori area late Tuesday night, leaving five people dead and four critically injured.

The incident occurred at the home of 48-year-old Musharraf, a zari-zardozi craftsman. The fire quickly engulfed the room where Musharraf, his wife Husna Bano (45), and their three nieces – Hina (2), Huma (4), and Saiya (7) – were sleeping. The intense heat from the blaze triggered the explosion of a gas cylinder, causing the roof and wall of the room to collapse.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene and conducted a rescue operation, pulling out all nine occupants. Unfortunately, Musharraf, his wife, and the three young girls succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The remaining four individuals – Musharraf’s brother-in-law Ajmat and his daughters Lakab, Insha, and Anam – sustained critical injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, but preliminary reports indicate an electrical short circuit as the most likely source. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with faulty electrical wiring and the importance of proper gas cylinder storage and handling.

Key Points:

  • Five individuals, including three children, perished in a house fire caused by a suspected electrical short circuit.
  • Four others sustained critical injuries and are undergoing treatment.
  • Authorities urge residents to prioritize electrical safety and proper gas cylinder storage to prevent similar tragedies.

This tragedy underscores the need for public awareness campaigns regarding electrical safety and gas cylinder handling practices. Implementing preventive measures such as using ISI-certified cylinders, storing them away from heat sources, and conducting regular leak checks can significantly reduce the risk of such incidents.
