New Delhi – Hindu religious leader Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati passed away on Sunday evening at the age of 99. It is reported that he was running ill for a long time. Jagadguru Shankaracharya Shri Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati was the Shankaracharya of two mathas (Dwarka and Jyotirmath). Religious Guru Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati breathed his last at 3.30 pm today at Paramhansi Ganga Ashram Jhoteshwar district Narsinghpur.

Birthday was celebrated on Teeja’s day


Swamiji recently celebrated his 99th birthday on Teeja. Shankaracharya went to jail after participating in the freedom struggle. He also fought a long legal battle for the construction of Ram temple.

Received the title of Shankaracharya in 1981


Jagadguru Shankaracharya was also the president of Ram Rajya Parishad, the political party of Sri Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati Karpatri Maharaj. In 1981, he got the title of Shankaracharya. In 1950, Sharda Peeth took initiation from Shankaracharya Swami Brahmanand Saraswati and came to be known as Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati. He was also very active in politics.

Abandoned home at the age of 9


Jagadguru Shankaracharya Shri Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati left his home at the age of 9. He started traveling at a young age. During this he reached Kashi and here he learned Brahmalin Sri Swami Karpatri Maharaj Veda-Vedang and scriptures.
