In 1989, the party was successful in winning 85 or 120 seats in 1991 in the wave of Ram temple movement. BJP got 161 seats in 1996 and 182 seats in 1998. The BJP formed a government on its own in 2014 with 282 seats and won a more powerful victory in 2019. The party has regained power by winning 303 seats alone in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
