The case against Bhati dates back to an incident that took place over two years ago, when she attended a party along with her brother-in-law Yogesh Bhati, who allegedly attacked a senior official from the Bulandshahr Municipal Corporation during an argument. The victim had to be hospitalized for several weeks.

Despite this, Bhati’s candidacy has been approved by the party’s high command, sparking a debate among party leaders and the public alike. This move has reignited the controversy around criminalization of politics and the role of political parties in promoting clean politics.
