New guidelines have been issued declaring a yellow alert in Delhi on Tuesday, which is going to have an impact on the movement of people. The effect of the changed situation has started showing on the film industry and once again the process of release of films has started. The makers of Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey have postponed the release of the film indefinitely.
A statement issued by the makers said – In view of the prevailing circumstances and the new Covid guidelines, we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of Jersey. So far we have received a lot of love from all of you and thank you all for this. Till then all of you please stay safe and stay healthy. Happy new year to all. Let me tell you, Jersey was scheduled to release on December 31 and was the last major release of this year. Jersey is a remake of the Telugu film of the same name.
Jersey was also among the films whose release dates were announced after getting permission to open theaters in Maharashtra on 22 October. Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur were busy promoting the film for the past several days. Jersey was being promoted through social media and TV shows. Shahid has also shot for The Kapil Sharma Show with Mrunal. There were also reports that the makers may release the film directly on OTT, but at present the sources have denied any such move.
Theaters closed in Delhi after Yellow Alert
In view of the increasing cases of Omicron in the capital, the Delhi government has declared a yellow alert on Tuesday, after which cinema halls and multiplexes in the state will be closed with immediate effect. If the situation does not improve, then in the coming days more states can take strict steps like closure of cinema halls. Night curfew has already been imposed in nine states including Delhi and Maharashtra, due to which the number of night shows has come down. Even if cinema halls are running, with 50 percent capacity. Releasing films in such a situation can be a risky affair for the producer.
Big movies to be released in January
After postponing the release of Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey, now the eyes are on the films coming in January. Many big budget and big star cast films are ready for release in the first month of 2022 and these films are being heavily promoted these days. In the current situation, it is possible that there will be news of postponement of the release of more films.
The release of RRR, Radhe Shyam, Prithviraj and Attack has been announced in January. The promotions of RRR, Radhe Shyam and Attack have already started. Just, the promotions of Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj are yet to pick up the pace. The trailer of the film, which is releasing on January 21, has not been released yet and no statement has been issued by the producer Yash Raj Films regarding this.
